Allen Residence
Blending form and function for a Point Loma residential entry.
In regards to impactful spaces in Interior Design, entries hold a special level of impact. It’s often peoples first impression of a home but it’s also a highly functional area serving as the transitionary area for the comfort of the home and the preparation for leaving the house. These entries also create an opportunity for creative design to seamlessly blend with the necessary function of the space. Our interior designers from our studio in San Diego recently had the chance to capitalize on this opportunity by bringing together the artists at Bloom Bloom Design, and the talented builders at Moniker Building Co. to create a one of a kind feature wall in this beautiful Point Loma residence.
The Interior Design Approach
As the interior design studio leading the management of the project, we worked hand in hand with the owners to understand the needs of the space as well as the aesthetic direction the clients gravitated towards from the beginning. The family has busy professional lives, as well as 3 teenage boys, so being able to understand the needs of the clients and run with it was important so they could prioritize time with the things that mattered most to them.
Our designers, working with the rest of the project team, created a clever solution to hide the existing A/V closet that still needed access while incorporating some custom furniture and thoughtful details to make the space stand out. Creating a color and material palette that maintained warmth while adding texture and keeping with the modern, industrial feel of the living space. For a relatively small space, there was lots of creative problem solving necessary to meet all the dynamic needs of the room.
The Builders Execution
With concept in hand, Moniker Building Co. went about developing a plan to bring the vision to life. The solution the team came up with included moving parts and custom furniture that required close collaboration between the interior design studio, the builders, and the artists that would put the finishing touches on the elements. This is really where the value of having a good team that works together from the beginning shines to avoid issues along the way.
Moniker Building Co. created the the sleek metal bench with integrated storage, as well as the mechanical track system, door to hide the A/V, and modern slat wall. With all these parts working together, the seamless execution by the team was a testament to their craftsmanship and ingenuity.
The Artists Touch
The final touch came from our friend at Bloom Bloom and their incredible green wall creation, to add the layer of warmth and texture to finish the space off. The greenery added some fresh contrast the the darker metal materials around it, and a creative element to make a memorable impression. The green wall required special coordination and planning from the beginning to integrate correctly, but with careful preparation and teamwork it was pulled off flawlessly.
This project was a great example of how collaboration and good design can create something special for the client to enjoy, and how it can be carried out efficiently and effectively with minimal involvement by the client for it to be successful. In the world of interior design and construction, a good team of people you trust really are instrumental in the success of a project. Designing and building something this special requires everyones unique skillset and perspective to create a one of a kind experience. This Point Loma residence is a shining example for this family to enjoy for years to come.
